The book came out of our multidisciplinary enquiry into the question of Milton;s authorship, during the 1990s. For this I was the resident Latinist. My contribution to its report which upheld the traditional attribution concerned the work’s Latin style: did it read like the rest of Milton’s Latin prose? Yes it did, given that Milton’s other Latin prose addresses unlike topics, and is written in unlike genres.
